The name of the bird is Common starling. But it may not be common in many countries. But it is seen in a large number where it is available. This is native to Europe and Western Asia. Later it was introduced all over the world. It has other names such as European starling, or simply Starling. In Bangladesh this is a very rare bird and known as Chitra shalik. Binomial name of the bird is Sturnus vulgaris and belongs to the bird family Sturnidae.

Common starling (Sturnus vulgaris) is a normal sized passerine bird. Predominant color of the bird is black with numerous yellowish-brown spots. The bird also has a glossy green and purple touch in wings and few other part of body. Color of the beak is yellow in color, and the feet are rosy in color. Both male are female birds are almost similar, except the feathers at throat are slightly longer for the males.

Common starling (Sturnus vulgaris) is a gregarious bird and often seen in a small to large group. Their quick move in air in a group creates lovely display of patterns in sky. They don't mind to live near human area, open field, or near coastal area. They prefer to make their nest in the hole of the tree, rooftop, building, other bird's nest, etc. They almost eat every thing starting from berries and grains to small insects. During the breeding season the female lays bluish eggs, sometimes 5 in a clutch.

As the Common starling found in a large group very often, and that can be a problem for the farmers. Although they remove lot of other pests from the field, but then there are no more pests then they become the pest themselves for the field. Also having aggressive feeding behaviour forces other birds to decrease in number.
